Radian Group
Company Overview
Radian Group Inc. is a mortgage insurance company with a suite of mortgage, risk, title, valuation, asset management, and real estate products services.
My Role
As a UX designer with Radian I worked with a team of designers on our title insurance and home search tools. I conducted and assisted in internal user testing, collaborated with developers, and designed major features across both platforms.
During my time at Radian I was the lead UX designer for titlegenius, a service that provides support to home buyers and their agents during the closing of a home. We assisted users by providing quotes for title insurance and other closing costs. I will be focusing on this product as it is where I spent most of my time.
User Research
During my time with Radian, we conducted internal user interviews about our product. We were able to test with a handful of employees who worked closely with our users and were familiar with their needs and pain points. These interviews provided us with a lot of valuable, actionable feedback.
Design System
One of the more significant items I was tasked with was to develop and expand a design system based on what had already existed in the platform when I was brought on. Below are just a few of the items that I created over the course of this project.
Responsive Design
Another strong area of focus was on responsive design. There was a lot of support to have an excellent experience across many devices so I dedicated a lot of time to achieving this goal. Below is an example of one of my designs and how it scaled between a desktop and mobile experience.
Feature Design
The heart of the titlegenius platform was being able to obtain a quote for title insurance. The main goals were to make the process simple, quick, and accessible.
To get the information we needed from the user we went with a series of short forms as opposed to one long one in an effort to not overwhelm the user as soon as they land in the quote flow. The dot menu, seen in the screenshot below, provided the user with a sense of progress letting them know how many steps there were to complete.
Once the user had filled out their information, we provided their title quote. The challenge was displaying a multitude of information in a way that was easy to ingest. We highlighted their quote but also provided a breakdown of costs so they would understand exactly how the number was calculated.
We also experimented with providing more advanced quotes to real estate agents that were acquiring quotes on behalf of their clients. Our goal was to maintain a consistent experience while applying the extra layer of offerings.
